The lovely Shari from Good Food Week nominated me for a Sisterhood of the World Blog Award. Here’s me, accepting the award:

My blog is better than Meryl's. Fact.

My blog is better than Meryl’s. Fact.

Nah, kidding.

I don’t think she has a blog.

So, the Sisterhood of the World Blog Award is much like a Liebster Award, which is another blog award that I have ALSO won (chronic over-achiever, I know!).  It’s not actually a physical award, just an internet thingy. I don’t know where it started or why; all I know is it’s a special award for lady-bloggers where you answer questions determined by the person that nominates you. You do this for no discernible reason except for a bit of fun and to let your readers get to know you a little better- the few of you who don’t actually know me.

So, brace yourselves, dear readers, as we prepare to explore the inner machinations of my mind. Or life. Or something.

Why did you start your blog?

Because I’m really quite mouthy and opinionated. This is probably no surprise. But a blog meant I could be mouthy and opinionated in a more organised fashion. You can read more about the rationale (if that’s the right word) here.

What makes you smile?

Usually, it’s something inappropriate. Lately, it’s been my husband, who has taken to shouting “NOT ALL MEN” at random intervals. Quite often, it’s my kids, too. The eldest has decided to go gothic, for example. I smile because I went through that, too, although she doesn’t want to believe me. Doesn’t stop her seeking liquid eyeliner advice, though!

Do you like a home cooked meal or do you prefer to go out to a restaurant?

Ohhh, tough one. I love to cook but I love being cooked for more. Bonus points for no cleaning up. Restaurant wins.

Did you attend the #PBEvent? And if you didn’t did you follow it on social media?

Nope. I’m not very “pro” at this blogging thing so I didn’t go but I did follow on social media. I saw a lot of us blogger types who also didn’t go posting their jealousy online. Instead, I shared this thrilling photo of what I was doing:

Who needs #problogger anyway? #jealous

Who is your favourite person to follow on Instagram?

I can’t settle on one favourite. I like Sam of The Annoyed Thyroid‘s yummy food pics and Cate Bolt of Pretty Fkn Embroidery takes great shots of her work (sweary embroidery rocks!).  Generally, I’m a big fan of nice food pics. And pets. All the cats, dogs, bunnies, guinea pigs and other furry friends- COME AT ME. I wanna squidge them all!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

It hasn’t happened yet. I am destined for mediocre greatness, I’m sure. (Is that possible?) I have had my moments, though. I can make a wicked ailoi, I’m a pretty decent mum and I have managed to get people to read my writing and even occassionally pay me for the privelige. I have even had one post go viral-ish- it was this one, where I whinged about my life as a shift worker. Seems a lot of people could relate!

What would your theme song be?

This. And no, I’m not sure why.

If you had to eat a vegetable everyday for the rest of your life, what vegetable would it be? And what would be the top five recipes that you would make with that vegetable?

Too easy.

Mashed potato, baked potato loaded with unhealthy deliciousness, creamy potato bake, potato salad and, when I’m feeling fancy- gnocchi in pesto!

If you could be one Australian blogger, who would you be?

Me. I just won an award for it, right? Ha! I think if would be cool to live a day in the life of a few of my favourite bloggers. To be as snarkily clever as Hugzilla, to be all around crafty and good in the kitchen and wise like Bron from Maxabella Loves, to have the insight of Ellen from Potential Psychology, to have the way with words that Dani from Sand Has No Home has or the eye for crumpet that Mumabulous has- she really has an eye, let me tell you! She introduced me (not literally *sighs*) to Clive Standen:

What are you looking forward to achieving this Spring?

I am going to TRY to write fiction. It may be a short story. But dammit, I will get something out. And then probably show no one at all. But hey, I’ll know I did it!

And the Prestigious Blog Award Nominees are:

Rebecca @ Seeing the Lighter Side

Em @ Em Hawker Blog

Dani @ Sand Has No Home

Rebel @ Rebel Without a Pause

And here are my questions for you!

  1. Who made your teenage heart sing- your biggest celeb crush from your teeny-bopper years?!
  2. The Zombie Apocalypse is upon us. You can choose 3 bloggers to be on your survival team. Who do you choose and why?
  3. What is your guilty pleasure?
  4. Favourite piece of art?
  5. Are you a feminist? Why/why not?
  6. Describe your daggiest at-home outfit- extra points for photos!
  7. Funniest or most cringe-worthy thing that’s happened to you?
  8. Why did you start writing?
  9. What are a few of the must-have features in your dream home?
  10. Your ultimate meal?

  • well this is fun!
I love the questions. Both sets. Great to see some very different questions being asked so we can see a different side to the awardees.

  • LydiaCLee

    Good for you!!

  • What on earth is Clive Standen saying in that picture? I’m impressed with your Problogger picture. I posted a picture of a duck at a pond while I was missing out 😉 Great to learn more about you.

    • Is it wrong that I don’t even care?! Hahahaha

    • Hugzilla

I just watched it 65 times (research purposes and all that….) I’m pretty sure he’s saying “Hugzilla”.

  • I never managed to get the hang of liquid eyeliner, though I did own some! You should write a tutorial 🙂 Thanks for the award, sista 😉

    • My first v-log eh? Give the beauty bloggers a run for their money!

  • Natalie @ Our Parallel Connect

What – are you opinionated? I am shocked. lol love your opinions and that you are out and proud to share them .

  • Yay! Thank you, you totally made my day 🙂 I’m excited to hear that you’re going to try your hand at some fiction writing, it is so very addictive!

  • Lisa

I love Blister in the Sun. We’re off to see the Violent Femmes at the Hunter Valley next year. Cannot wait!

  • Like your choice of song Amy. I look forward to reading some of your fiction ! Its always nice to read these kind posts getting you know your favourite bloggers a little better.

  • Congratulations!!! And well deserved, loved those questions too. And thanks for bringing the Violent Femmes into my morning, bringing with them great memories of Year 11 and 12!

  • Congrats on the award, you deserve it! I love your opinions, you certainly have more guts than I do!

    • Nawww, thank you Eva! I’m loving your new direction too!

  • writeofthemiddle

Congratulations on your prestigious award! I feel honoured to know you!! I can’t believe that this year I was one of those bloggers who actually went to #pbevent – usually I stalk it on Instagram and Twitter! Restaurant would win over home cooked meal for me too because home cooked meal is cooked by me and has the side serve of cleaning up kitchen and washing up. Restaurant food is cooked by a proper chef and there is no cleaning up – winner!! 🙂

    • Hahaha, thank you! I may have to go to PB next year just for the social aspects!

  • Regardless of the Pro part of ProBlogger, I love a weekend away with bloggy buddies.

  • I would totally eat potatos for the rest of my life too if I had to choose one vegetable, they’re just SO GOOD.

  • Potatoes for the WIN!!! They would feature heavily in my last meal, they may make up all of it in fact!

  • yay! congrats! and good luck with writing the fiction x

  • Fun to learn more about you. That Violent Femmes clip brought back some memories mostly of me wearing really badly applied liquid eyeliner! So excited to hear you are writing a book – go you!

    • Ooooh I dunno about a book- but I’ll have a crack at a story 🙂 Hope the memories were good ones!

  • Love reading these things. So are you going to do Nanowrimo or wing it alone?

  • LOL enjoyed your answers. Better than most “I won a blog award” posts I’ve seen anyways 😉

  • Potatoes! Is there anything they can’t do??

  • Love reading your answers! Made me smile as I read them

  • Congratulations, clever lady! VF and potatoes, doesn’t get much better, does it? 😉

  • Most welcome! Thanks for the constant lolz 🙂

  • Hey you, thanks for the lovely words. Any blog post that opens with Mulder and Scully gets my attention. (Showing my age?) Oh and the second to last image is pretty ok too 😉 And you ask great questions! xx

  • NAWWWWWWW. Thank you. Me so special. I have lost the blogging mojo recently, so a Q&A style post might be exactly what is needed to kick it back into gear!
