Are you fed up with men who make women uncomfortable online? Sleazy comments and abuse are nothing new, though unacceptable, but what about when it’s something targeting pregnant women? Kylie from Kidgredients has seen a few guys engaging in such behaviour recently, with one particular stand-out. He’s been trawling Instagram, leaving his thoughts on pictures of heavily pregnant women.

Instagram: More than just pictures of other people’s dinner.

Kylie and I have discussed this guy at length, because he’s appeared on the Instagram accounts of more than one of our blogging mates! We’ve both been among those giving him a piece of our minds about his comments. We’re not the target of his sexually suggestive remarks but just reading them is enough to creep you out.

Sometimes, life throws more at us that anyone could be expected to cope with. I know it’s happened to me; I look back now and wonder how exactly I got past it all.

Kate Shelby went through one of the worst times imaginable; her son’s cancer. Imagine having to go through that on your own. This is her story of where she drew the strength to not only get through an extremely difficult time, but how she regained her sense of self and changed her outlook later on.

Have you met Kate Shelby, from Australian Mum? She’s a blog writer, mother and lover of superheroes in tights. Kate is raising 3 children in Brisbane, QLD. She writes to tell her story and to allow other people to tell theirs. And today, she’s here to tell one of hers.

Trigger warning: Talks about depression, self-harm and sexual assault.

This is a guest post written by someone who prefers to remain anonymous.

Depression is something I have struggled with for as long as I remember. I think I might have been around 9 when it first started, and when you’re a kid you just get called a sook, a cry-baby or an attention-seeker. I got the same responses into my teen years, when I did speak up and try to get some help.

I was just a kid who had nothing to be depressed about, right?

I remember being in year 6 and so skinny that my hip bones stuck out. I had to wear jeans that were too big just so they would accommodate my protruding bones. I was wearing a ladies size 8 and the kids at school called me fat because I was no longer wearing kid’s sizing. At night, once my family had all gone to bed, I would take a saucepan into the bathroom and repeatedly hit my stomach and hip bones because I believed it would make me skinnier and, therefore, more likable. I know it sounds nuts, but this is how I felt I could deal with it.

Women Don’t Owe You a Conversation.

Recently, I went to the Melbourne Writer’s Festival. It was amazing. But in between the amazing, there was some uncomfortable and that’s what I want to talk about. Two men inadvertently made me feel really uncomfortable. I say inadvertently because I think (or hope?) that if they knew, they wouldn’t have acted this way.

In the scheme of things, it probably rates as fairly minor. I’m sure these guys were just trying to be friendly.
